Holidays in Great
Britain
Learning English
and not knowing English holidays? This is nonsense, and short-sighted: if you
find yourself in Britain in August, it would be a shame not to see a
representative of the carnival in Europe, in the rocks - the amazing fireworks
of Guy Fawkes Night, in June - the celebration of the official Queen's
Birthday.
Valentine's Day:
February 14th
Although
Valentine's Day is not a public holiday, it is still very much loved by the
English.
Legends associate
this day with the figure of Saint Valentine, who helped unhappy lovers get
married. The date of the holiday falls on the day of the saint's execution.
It is customary to
dedicate this day to your loved ones: give them valentine cards and arrange
romantic dinners together.
